Slovakia scores in the Transparency International Corruption Percepts Index below the EU average.

Data from the TI Corruption Perception Index shows that:

In 2021, Slovakia ranks 56/180 countries. Its score is 52/100 possible. Already from the methodology it is clear, that lower to score, the higher the level of perceived corruption. As for 2021, the average score of the TI Corruption Perception Index is indicated to be 43/100 (for all the global geographical coverage). The average regional score for Western Europe and European Union in 2021 was set at 66/100. Hence, already looking at the score and ranking, it can be concluded that Slovakia scored lower by 18 points as the average for the Western Europe and European Union region.

In addition, as TI Corruption Perception Index is an annual measurement tool, the country’s scores and ranking can be compared with last year’s result. In 2020, Slovakia scored 49/100 and ranked 60/180. The average score for 2020 was the same, 43/100. The average regional score for Western Europe and European Union was 66/100. While Slovakia’s score in 2020 was above average for the global region, it was 17 points below the regional average, ranking Slovakia among the lowest performers in the region, shortly after Romania (44), Hungary (44) and Bulgaria (44).

The results of the TI CPI can be compared throughout the years. However, the quantitative data including the score and ranks of each of 180 countries is only complemented with a brief description in a form of an annual report. The annual report, however, does not include a detailed overview for each region or country. The report rather focuses on giving an overall picture of the state of perceived corruption across the global region, with including short highlights for selected countries where significant decline or progress has been achieved.
